Constantia is committed to conducting an environmentally responsible exploration program at Maggie. We apply best environmental practices in the planning, design and implementation of our exploration activities.
- Effects of exploration are localized, minimal and temporary. Upon completion of drilling, drill rigs are removed and the site is reclaimed to its former state.
- The environment and wildlife will be protected during our exploration activities.
- Steel casings are installed on every single drill hole and cemented to bedrock to isolate all drilling from groundwater.
- Upon completion of drilling, drill rigs are removed and the site is reclaimed. All abandoned holes are back-filled with cement and capped. The surface is reseeded with vegetation.
Protecting the Bonaparte River
Constantia understands the importance local people place on the Bonaparte River and its water resources. We are committed to ensuring that water quality, water flows and fish habitat in the Bonaparte Watershed will be protected and sustained throughout our exploration activities at the Maggie Project.
As a result of community input gathered during our early engagement efforts and consistent with our principles of Responsible Mineral Development, Constantia conducted a water quality sampling and monitoring program in the area before, during and after our drilling program.
Surface Water & Groundwater Quality Sampling
- Measuring and collecting surface water samples at three sites in the Bonaparte River (located upstream, downstream and near the project site), and seven groundwater sampling locations in cooperation with local landowners;
- Using handheld water quality meters to measure conditions on site;
- Testing samples at independent laboratories to measure such parameters as level of nutrients, dissolved metals, organics and pH levels; and
- Analyzing results to ensure no impact due to exploration activities at Maggie.
Recycling and Reusing Water -- Zero Discharge Philosophy
Constantia recycles and reuses water on site at the Maggie Project in order to reduce the amount of water used during the drill program. The company also collects drill cuttings in custom, closed containment tanks ensuring zero discharge to the environment. Drill cuttings are then removed from site, processed and transported to a proper disposal area offsite.
Constantia utilizes a closed loop recirculation system to reduce the amount of water consumed and to capture drill cuttings. Conserving water and removing drill cuttings from site helps the company achieve its goal of protecting the environment and enhancing sustainability.
